'Steam Railway' Gala

An event to rival even the size of the NYMR's LNER gala earlier in the year.
Star of the show was 'Tornado', the first time i had seen this wonderful machine, but with a no less glittering supporting cast:
70013 Oliver Cromwell, 5690 Leander, 850 Lord Nelson and 63601, 4141 and 78019 from the GC's 'Home' stud.
The amount of people lineside and on the trains was unbelievable, but truely what the event deserved.
Tornado approaches Quorn         Ollie approaches Quorn         Still getting admiring glances         Leander hauls a train through Switherland         Tornado at Kinchley Lane Bridge

'Saturday'
Saturday morning, and 48305 + 63601 sit on shed         Outside, Lord Nelson and Leander await duties         The first train of the day sees Oliver Cromwell hauling it         Tornado departs Quorn         Tornado departs Quorn

63601 hauls mineral wagons out of Quorn         Ollie passes Woodthorpe         78019 at the same location         Tornado approaches Woodthorpe         63601 approaches Woodthorpe

Leander just evades the sun approaching Quorn         Lord Nelson near Rabbit Bridge         Lord Nelson at Rabbit Bridge         Tornado at Kinchley Lane on the TPO         Leander passes the very large gallery

Now time for 63601 to show its stuff         78019 Approaches Rothley         70013 on a small van working                 Leander Approaches Rothely

Mail By Rail, Saturday 26th July 2008

A Baking hot day. Came to see Lord Nelson, but the sweltering conditions led to moving slowly between trees!
a timber dry lineside didn't help with fires being set off reguarly.

Saturday 18th May 2008

A First chance to see Oliver Cromwell back in service. Miserable conditions, but Sir Lamiel and 78019 were also running

Great Central Railway 'Mail by Rail'
Once again, a supreme GCR event. Shame about the late failure of 'Sir Lamiel' but still witnessed some good running.
This was also the first time that i had witnessed a mail drop at speed, and it was certainly an enthralling site!
Many thanks to all who took part, the event seemed to be suitably well patronised as well.
78019 on the Mail Run         Either a TPO Volunteer or Ronnie Brigg's younger Brother you decide         4141 leaving Quorn - its uncleaned condition giving a real end of steam look         4141 leaves Quorn         Classes 25 + 27 on the TPO
